About Hemophilia Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina
July of 1999: The foundation
Hemophilia Society is non-government and not-for-profit organization registered in 1999 as the first organization of persons with hemophilia in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since the end of 2005 it is officially registered as Hemophilia Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Locating and registering persons with hemophilia
Creating national hemophilia patients registry has been set as one of the most important goals of the Hemophilia Society and it remains one of main priorities of the Hemophilia Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the future.
Lobbying for better hemophilia care
Continuing contacts with relevant government and healthcare institutions and lobbying for better health and social care for hemophilia patients are everlasting concerns of our volunteers.
Product donations
Hemophilia Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina has, thanks to support of World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH), Irish Haemophilia Society (IHS) and large pharmaceutical companies, ensured donations of large amounts of treatment products for persons with hemophilia. These donations helped to lessen, at some periods, severe lacking of treatment products. Besides, these donations helped in some emergency medical cases and covered several surgical operations.
Membership in WFH and EHC
Hemophilia Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the full right member of World Federation of Hemophilia and European Hemophilia Consortium. Representative of HSBH is a member of National Organization Twinning Committee of the World Federation of Hemophilia.
Newsletters, publications and educational activities
HSBH is organizing numerous educational activities since the first day of its official registration and these are important segment of its work. Educational activities includes organization of NMO trainings, organization of educational activities for clinicians, participation at seminars and conferences, summer camps, discussions, members meetings, printing newsletter and various publications and leaflets, media coverage etc.
In October 2006 HSBH has organized 1st Hemophilia Symposium in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the largest and most comprehensive hemophilia meeting in Bosnia and Herzegovina ever. All presentations were well attended and topics ranged from the organization and development of hemophilia care, laboratory follow-up, appearance and follow-up of the inhibitors to coagulation factors, hemophilia and hepatitis C, to the physiotherapy in hemophilia.
Participation at international conferences and international contacts
Important segment of Hemophilia Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina activities are permanent contacts with international organizations, and representation of Bosnia and Herzegovina at international conferences. Amongst the others these are:
World Federation of Hemophilia Congresses: Montreal – Canada 2000, Seville – Spain 2002, Vancouver – Canada 2006;
Conferences of European Hemophilia Consortium: Murcia – Spain 1999, Malmö – Sweden 2001, Lisse – Netherlands 2003;
Regulators workshop/ Safety and Supply Conference: Budapest – Hungary 2003 and 2005;
General Assembly Meeting of Hemophilia Society of Macedonia: Skopje – Macedonia 2003;
Visits to Irish Hemophilia Society and visit to Hemophilia Treatment Center of this country: Dublin and Galway 2004, 2005 and 2006
Muscle-skeletal Committee for Hemophilia
Musculoskeletal Committee for Hemophilia (MSC) has been established in 2003 by group of excellent doctors led by dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanovic, orthopedic expert from Sarajevo, in cooperation with Hemophilia Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This Committee is going to become important part of Hemophilia Treatment Center.
Hemophilia Treatment Center
Foundation of national Hemophilia Treatment Center is one of main priorities of Hemophilia Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Twinning partnership
Since the year of 2003 the Hemophilia Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina is partner of the Irish Haemophilia Society within Twinning program of the World Federation of Hemophilia.
Summer camps for persons with hemophilia
Hemophilia Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina is organizing summer camps for persons with hemophilia with international participation. First of these happened in May 2004 with participation of national hemophilia societies and hemophilia treatment centers of Serbia, Macedonia, and Republic of Ireland and with participation of World Federation of Hemophilia. These summer camps are excellent opportunity for participants to exchange their experiences and to learn more about different topics related to hemophilia care.
